With the school lessons in natural and complicated English many students fail to identify the actual problems in their studies.
In many case, it is the English language (medium / means) that is the root cause for poor performances in other subjects like science, history and Mathematics.
Although, English being a primary subject, taught right from First standard, most students who do not fair well in other subjects have also been found to be very poor in English, as they are unable to comprehend (Understand) rightly in English. In contrary those students top in class have very good comprehending skills in English and consequently do well in other subjects too.
If the subject matter needs to reach students mind, it must be carried through a medium (means - language), which is the primary reason why students are asked to learn languages like English, Tamil, French and others. Here, in our country most of the states follow English as means of transporting subject from the textbook to the mind of students or from the teachers to the mind of students. If the students are not strong in this medium - means they may not be able to comprehend (understand) the subject matter at all.
Developing good language understanding can be obtained only through some long reading with aid of dictionary. May be initially, nothing seem to get inside the head, but through this practice, slowly it would be possible understand better.
Some, are naturally capable of understanding the subject easily through some early reading habits. It may not be an overnight affair, but through some persistent reading certainly better understanding could be attained.
Keeping this in mind, students should focus more on developing language skills at a very early age. Do not neglect. Start, early as primary classes. If not, at least start immediately. In couple of month's time your understanding capacity would have significantly improved depending on your interest and hardwork.
Most of the words in the subjects found in higher classes are natural and little complex. Students usually do not use dictionary while encountering new, difficult words, as result they keep progressing in the subject without knowing the actual meaning, instead assuming, this is what the particular word could mean. Later, they find themselves in a difficult situation when they sit down to study for board exams, not knowing the exact meaning of the words. Taking the help from a dictionary would mean lot of time at the time of boards. Developing good vocabulary can easily help to identify the subject of the lesson.
All that you need to do is to focus more on developing language skills like vocabulary, use of the new words with appropriate grammar, reading and comprehending skills and writing skills. Make the dictionary your good friend.
With inapt understanding and difficult words piled up like mountain all that happens during the last few days of the exam is reading with no understanding at all.
Good language comprehension can certainly facilitate to do well in other subjects too.
