Srinagar: Kashmir University has sought extension of a moratorium by two years on opening of new private B.Ed colleges in the state. The moratorium was imposed in 2007-08 to check mushrooming growth of private colleges offering the course .
The decision to put on hold opening of such colleges was unanimously taken at a high level meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University Riyaz Punjabi. "The meeting followed a communication from Secretary Higher Education at the Centre to ascertain the viability of starting new B.Ed colleges," a spokesman of the University said.
He said the meeting also decided that colleges opening in the private sector shall produce no-objection certificates for verification of allotted site and none of them will be allowed to migrate without proper permission.
