Chennai: Business Management schools are already mushrooming in the city: adding to the list will be the Hawk Business School (HBS), which was launched today with the aim to offer industry specific programmes in lean management, an area which was significantly untouched or not explored by other business schools in India.
Speaking at the launch press conference, HBS Vice-President S Sukumaran and Director D Srinivasan said ''lean'' was nothing but a manufacturing philosophy based on Toyota Production Systems to constantly strive to shorten the timeline between the customer order and shipment, by elimination of 'Muda,' the Japanese word for waste.
The certficate from HBS would help students consistently gain a high level of competence in the use of the Supply Chain Operations Reference Model (SCOR).
They said HBS offers a 18-month full time PG programme on Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) that brings together faculty renowned for expertise in SCM, a cutting-edge industry specific curriculum and active collaboration with industry leaders to give students the pro-edge in addressing current SCM issues and challenges like professionals.
Mr Srinivasan said the cost of the course was Rs seven lakh and HBS was already in negotiation with banks to secure loans.
To begin with, 35 UG students in Engineering, Commerce, Economics and Business Administration would be considered for admission after the entrance tests.
The 18-month programme includes two month international training in Singapore and onsite consultancy programme for four months. He said the Chennai campus would be ready by the end of this month and by the end of this year HBS would have its campus in Puducherry and Hyderabad, before adding a residential campus in Coimbatore by the end of next year. ''Our aim is to have 15 campuses all over India by 2015'', Mr Srinivasan said.
