Kancheepuram: Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Vishwa Maha Vidyalaya University (SCSVMV) is all set to launch a online course in 'jyothisham' (astrology), a top official said.
The curriculum for jyothisham course, prepared by Professors from Mysore and Osmania universities, was ready and the course would be launched on its website soon for a fee, Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr V Shivakumar told reporters here.
He said the university was already offering its Sanskrit certificate courses online free of cost. Talking about its association with other universities, including those from abroad, he said the SCSVMV had signed Teacher exchange programs with the Universities of Singapore and Thailand.
The university had also launched its centre for South Asian Studies aiming to serve the needs of Tamils in the region in areas like anthropology, history and other traditional studies. As a logical next step the University is planning the Academic Staff College for training teachers in rural areas, with refresher courses.
Shivakumar said the SCSVMV has bagged Rs 19 lakh from the Atomic Energy Department for a research project. It provides seed money to encourage its students to do original work. He also said the institute would shortly be collaborating with University of Korima in Mexico in astrology and Silpa
sasthra and Tamil and Sanskrit sudies.
