Ahmedabad: The new cohort-based placement process for students of the second year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) kicked off at the country's leading business school, IIM-A.
In the new process, companies that offer similar roles, profiles, salaries, locations and others are grouped into individual cohorts, an IIM-A release said here.
The several cohorts comprise a Cluster. The first Cluster had companies across four cohorts international investment banks, global strategy consulting, global niche consulting and private equity/venture capital.
The new process allowed recruiters to interact with the students for a longer duration, the release said.
The Boston Consulting Group which gave out eight offers, including pre-placement offers, said, ''We were very happy with the new process. We were able to select excellent candidates.'' Another regular recruiter McKinsey and Co also made eight offers, including pre-placement offers. The students also found the new process more relaxed and were able to make better choices.
According to Prof Saral Mukherjee, ''Today being the first time the cohort-based system was being implemented, we were a trifle apprehensive. However, as the day progressed, the relaxed atmosphere in and around the interview rooms were a pointer that we have moved in the right direction.'' This year several investment banks like Bank of America-Merrill Lynch came back to the campus for recruitment after skipping the process last year.
