Chennai's first bilingual international school, Deutsche Schule Chennai (DSC), was launched recently in the city.
Thomas A. Pallushek, cheif executive officer of DSC said, “DSC is committed to inspiring students to achieve the highest standards of intellectual and personal development through a stimulating and comprehensive curriculum.”
The DSC will offer bi-lingual (English and German) education for children from grades 1 to 4. Indian children will be given German language classes. Kinder Garten classes are also available. Each class will accommodate 12 students. “We offer an education of high standards flanked by individual learning support and quality assurance in the area of teacher-training,” Mr. Pallushek said.
“In order to recognise the uniqueness in every child we use a proven scientific test procedure, which measures a broad spectrum of each child's capabilities which are individual-specific,” Mr. Pallushek said on the procedure to assess each child. The Consul General of Federal Republic of Germany, Hans-Burkhard Saurteig, who spoke on the occasion, said that the DSC will make Chennai more attractive to German investors. “Such a bi-lingual school will enable Indian children to explore the culture and the lifestyle of Germany by getting to know the German language,” he said.
The school now functions from a house in Neelankarai and will relocate to a spacious campus once grades 5 to 12 get functional. “Indian students who complete their education (12th grade) in DSC have the advantage of receiving German school leaving certificate (Abitur) which will enable them to apply for admission in German universities at the undergraduate level itself. The students have the double advantage of receiving German school education and working knowledge of German language,” said Prabhakar Narayan, Head of language department, Goethe Institute Chennai.
“Many leading companies of German origin recognise the advantage of the Indian potential for growth and benefit from a reciprocal relationship. The special aspects and the rising demand on qualitative and special education has convinced us to launch the DSC inthis city,” Mr. Pallushek said.
The school offers Tamil lessons on request and has started admitting Indian students. The DSC has the following two special offers until February 28, 2010: a) Free Day Offer: Parents can send their children for one day free of charge to our Kindergarten. For the parents it is also allowed to stay with their children! B) Special Opening Fee: For the first 10 children, it's 50 per cent off admission fee.
