Indore: Acting on the advice of former President A P J Abdul Kalam, students of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore visited rural areas to have a first hand experience of government-run welfare schemes.
Around 200 students of IIM, Indore had spent nearly a week this month in Madhya Pradesh's 20 districts including Satna, Panna, Guna, Dewas and Katni to watch the rural economy from a close quarter, IIM sources said here today.
A total of 20 groups of students were formed to acquaint themselves about the claims made by the government in the area of generating employment and development works carried out in rural areas, they said. "After the exhaustive study we found that many government schemes looks good on papers, but due to poor implementation, desired results are not visible at the ground level," one of the team members Gaurav Mathur said after visiting number of villages in Dewas district.
The IMM Indore students felt that it was also necessary to infuse a sense of belonging among the villagers that the government schemes are being run for their welfare and they should ensure their participation in these schemes.
Sumant Vatsa, first year student of post-graduate programme (PGP) in IIM-Indore said that he acquainted himself with the importance given by villagers to the recent panchayat polls in the state and enthusiasm among them on the issue of voting.
