Bangalore: The Karnataka Government today decided to sanction Rs 175 crore for creating infrastructure, including laboratories in its pre-university colleges to start courses in science and commerce.
"The government will appoint 2,018 lecturers and set up 1,311 laboratories in 437 colleges in the next three years. These colleges are now teaching only courses in Arts," Law Minister Suresh Kumar told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
He said an ordinance would soon be promulgated to set up a horticulture university in Bagalkot and added that a Rs 10 crore corpus fund would be created to fund "innovative thoughts" mooted by officials to improve administration. The cabinet cleared a proposal to set up ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) offered by the Centre.
The meeting also decided to enhance the honorarium to freedom fighters from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 with immediate effect, he said.
