Jammu and Kashmir students impressed with Mumbai

Mumbai,: A group of schoolchildren and teachers from Jammu and Kashmir, currently here on a visit, are impressed by infrastructure development in the metropolis and want their militancy-hit state to make rapid strides on the path of modernisation.

A 22-year-old Urdu teacher, who hails from Poonch district, wants the mountainous border area to spot signs of progress. "The city looks so modern and it is great to see so much infrastructure development here. The newly built Bandra Worli Sea Link, amusement parks, museum and other things are worth seeing. We wish we had at least few of them," Shakeel Ahmed said.

Ahmed, his two colleagues and 34 students from Poonch are here on a two-week visit to Mumbai and Pune. The visit is part of the Army's 'Sadbhawna Education Tour' where students from Jammu and Kashmir are taken to various historical, defence and entertainment places in Mumbai and Pune.

"Although some peace has been restored in Poonch district, it still has a long way to go in comparison to a mega city like Mumbai (in terms of development)," Ahmed said. "We have irregular supply of water and electricity, and roads are only not proper. But one thing we are proud of, is the natural beauty of the Kashmir Valley," he said.
