Santiniketan: The muchawaited probe into allegations of corruption against Rajat Kanta Ray, the vice-chancellor of Visva-Bharati, will begin on Tuesday.
Chairman of the inquiry committee, Ramaranjan Mukherjee, and UGC deputysecretary Shakil Ahmed will reach Santiniketan on Tuesday and stay there till Wednesday. Though Tuesday is a half-day and Wednesday the weekly holiday at VB, all concerned officials — especially those working in the administrative departments — have been asked to be present on both days. Classes, however, will not be held.
In a communiqué, UGC has instructed the university to provide the probe committee with all necessary documents and extend full co-operation. A well-equipped office has been set up in the central building of the varsity for the committee. The committee members are scheduled to meet Ray and registrar Manimukut Mitra first and then, the department officials.
Debabrata Sarkar, president of Karmi Sabha (employees’ association) of V-B, said all the evidence would be placed before the probe committee to prove the allegations. Kishor Bhattacharya, the president of Adhyapak Sabha, also assured of full cooperation. “We are ready for the probe. Just like we have raised allegations against the vicechancellor and other higher officials, allegations may be raised against us, too. The committee is welcome to probe it as well,” he said.
Amitabha Chowdhury, the PRO of V-B, said: “All arrangements have been made following the UGC’s instructions. The schedule of the meeting with the committee has been communicated to all concerned employees. The registrar has held meetings with the departments so that the probe can progress smoothly.
