ICTACT to provide industry-relevant programmes

The Anna University, Coimbatore, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu (ICTACT) to function as a nodal institution for ICTACT in the area of its jurisdiction. This will enable ICTACT to provide industry-relevant training programmes in the Information and Communication Technology spectrum to the faculty members of the university and its affiliated Colleges.

DGM Academic Initiatives of ICTACT, and J. Preethi, HOD In-charge of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, were present. According to a ICTACT release, various training programmes will also be sponsored by the academy. ICTACT is a consortium of Government of India, Government of Tamil Nadu and Confederation of Indian Industry. It is a pioneering venture under the private-public partnership model that endeavours to train the higher education teachers in Tamil Nadu in the areas of ICT thereby making the students to be industry ready.

ICTACT has launched its first programme for Anna University- Coimbatore recently in association with Cognizant Technology Solutions and Tata Consultancy Services. The Academy will soon launch programmes from Microsoft and many other top ICT Companies at Anna University- Coimbatore.

In the current scenario, the issue faced by both industry and institutions is addressing the gap between what the students imbibe from the University curriculum and what industry recruiters expect from fresh graduates in terms of hard and soft skills. The ICT Academy seeks to bridge these gaps through structured training programmes addressing teachers of Engineering, Arts & Science, Polytechnic Colleges and ITIs. ICTACT will train around 5,000 faculty members across Tamil Nadu in three years. This programme is expected to benefit over 2, 50,000 students.
