Chennai: Stressing the importance of research activities in Siddha medicine, Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today said the National Institute of Siddha Medicine here should develop steps for the wide spread use of Siddha system.
Speaking during the World Siddha Day celebrations at the National Institute, he said, 'the celebration of 'World Siddha Day' would certainly spread the values of Siddha medicine among the people at large.'
Stating that the institute should review 'what has been done in the past and what needs to be done in the future,' he said it should come out with concrete plans to enhance research and explore the possibilities of using siddha system in new avenues to prevent or curtail challenging diseases.
He said the institute should initiate process of translating the Tamil scripts of siddha medicine to English and other Indian languages for the benefit of mankind.
Expressing happiness that the WHO has given a project to compile the treatment guidelines in siddha, Barnala said, 'this will certainly bring to light the values of siddha medicines globally.
