In an attempt to create an awareness on career opportunities for NCC (National Cadet Corps) students, D.G. Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, conducted a national seminar. About 400 students from Chennai colleges and institutions in Coimbatore, Madurai and Puducherry participated in the programme.
Students were enlightened on various job opportunities in defence, police and government departments and procedures for joining the service.
Inspector General of Police (State Traffic Planning Cell) T. Radhakrishnan emphasised physical and mental fitness as key requirments for joining the police service. He also advised the students to prepare for the civil service examination.
Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission member R. Narayanasamy spoke on the career opportunities in government services. He gave a detailed account of preparing for Group I examination and the syllabus.
The participants also learnt about the career avenues in defence services. The experts elaborated about the five-day interview process of Service Selection Board, including screening test, psychology test and group discussions, to join services such as Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
Lieutenant S. Santhosh Baboo of the NCC 1 (TN) Armed Squadron and D.G. Vaishnav College principal S. Narasimhan took part in the programme.
