Gala show by BD Memorial kids

Kolkata: Students of BD Memorial Institute enthralled the audience for two days at Nazrul Manch during the school’s annual fest on December 21 and 22.

The first day’s show, Satya Buddha ka aur Thirkan Jeevan ki, was a series of dance forms from all across the country. The high point of the day was the enactment of the life story of Gautam Buddha by the students of Pratapgarh II branch. The director-cum-administrator of the school, Usha Mehta, said the theme had been chosen keeping in mind the violence humans were subjected to this decade.
 
The patriotic spirit was awakened with the dance Satyameva Jayate. The chief guests of the day included A V Mazrika, head of the cultural department, consulate general of the Russian Federation in Kolkata, Shyamal Sanyal, former V-C of Jadavpur University, R N Basu, educator of Health Care Project, Guru Girdhari Nayak, a prominent Odissi dancer, and faculty members of the Rabindra Bharati University (RBU), including Kalavati Devi and Kalamandalam V R Venkilt. They gave away prizes to students who had recently appeared for their board exams. Their parents were also presented with tokens of appreciation. Youngsters of the Bansdroni branch danced to foot-tapping numbers from recent Bollywood blockbusters while those of Pratapgarh I branch brought alive the perils of the Aila. The Bansdroni branch students presented a medley of various dance forms of India.
 
The second day’s programme, titled ‘Dimension and Formations’, began with a presentation on war and peace by the tiny tots of Garia II branch. The slow themes of the afternoon turned into a fast-paced presentation of dance forms from various countries of the world and a combination of various Indian dance forms. The chief guests included Suresh Man Shrestha, the consulate general of Nepal in Kolkata and Amita Dutta, dean, faculty of arts, RBU.
