MA opposes demand to start diploma in rural medicine

Hyderabad: Indian Medical Association (IMA) has opposed the demand of its West Bengal unit for starting a diploma course in rural medicine.

Dharam Prakash, Secretary General of IMA, that the demand was opposed by the apex body of the doctors at its two-day annual conference that began here today. The meet took various administrative decisions besides discussing welfare measures for the community at large. The IMA is a representative, voluntary group of doctors of modern scientific system of medicine, which looks after the interest
of doctors and the well being of the community at large.

A large number of doctors have come down to the city for the meet from across the country despite the disturbance in the wake of the Telangana crisis, he said.

The scientific session of the conference was inaugurated by Supreme Court Judge Sudershan Reddy. The conference's award ceremony, where doctors from different specialities were presented with recognitions and citations for their contributions, was inaugurated by D Purundeswari, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development.
