Shillong: IIM Shillong has released a statement regarding factually incorrect news items printed about the institute, mostly by an organisation called Star NGO.
"This NGO has no address nor any mention of office bearers. Their modus operandi is to use a gmail ID, keep their mails unsigned and carry out a malicious campaign against the Institute, the director, faculty members et al," states the release.
"That a premier educational Institution has started functioning in the North East, and within a year and half of its existence ranks amongst the top B-Schools of the country seems both unpalatable and unacceptable to these people. Hence, they have consistently carried out a campaign against the IIM Shillong," it adds.
The release also mentions why IIM Shillong took a long time in responding to the allegations. "IIM Shillong avoided responding to this campaign as it did not want to commit its time and resources on what was non-productive work. It was felt that its limited resources was better used in building the institute. Incidentally, no Centrally Funded Institute has come up in the North East with the efficiency and in the time frame in which IIM Shillong has been established," says the statement.
The statement comes after stories about IIM Shillong having lost half its faculty strength over differences with Director."This is factually incorrect and malicious in intent. We are contemplating legal recourse to publication of such factually incorrect and malafide news reports,"states the release.
