New Delhi: The government has given a fresh extension of 3 months to director of NCERT Prof Krishna Kumar after it could not complete the appointment process for the top post within the scheduled time.
Prof Kumar was earlier given an extension of three months which got over on December 5, since the appointment process for the director's post is yet to be completed, the incumbent director has been given fresh extension till March 5 next year or the date of the appointment of the new director which ever is earlier, HRD ministry sources said.
The govt has invited application from eligible candidates for the director's job and around 33 candidates, including vice-chairman of UGC Prof Ved Prakash, have applied for the job.
The ministry has also constituted a search-cum-selection committee headed by Secretary Elementary Education and Literacy Ansu Vaish. Prof Kumar was appointed as the NCERT director in September 2004 for a period of 5 years.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been running without a permanent chairman for the last over 1 year. The ministry has forwarded a panel of names including the name of present in-charge Chairman Veenit Joshi for the job to Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The DoPT is supposed to put the name before the appointment committee of the cabinet for final approval. The ministry has already given a reminder to DoPT as it is yet to forward the name to the appointment committee of the cabinet.
