As Pune is emerging as a hub for the animation and gaming sector, the University of Pune (UoP) has proposed to start a bachelor's course in animation and digital arts.
With the varsity contributing in the area of imparting training in animation and gaming, the industry hopes that the process of standardisation of training in animation gets a boost.
The animation and gaming industry in the city is expected to achieve a business of around five billion dollars in the next five years with some international projects having already ben done in the city and more are in the pipeline.
According to acting vice chancellor Arun Adsool, the university has started developing course content for the courses. “We hope to start the courses in next two years as the sector is growing leaps and bounds and there is a dearth of skilled manpower. The University of Pune hopes to contribute by way of creating quality manpower,†he said.
Adsool said the university didn't want to start the course in haste. “We have set up a committee to look into the modalities to be carried out for starting the course. The committee while preparing syllabus will also study the other such courses running in the other varsities across the country. We will send the teams to study these courses," he said.
The idea of starting the animation course in the varsity was proposed in the academic council meeting held on November 30. However, a committee was set up to further look into the modalities.
