Dindigul: All three dimensions of education - teaching, research and extension - should reflect the needs of society and focus on rural development, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D Purandeswari said today.
In her speech at the 27th convocation of Gandhigram Rural University read out in absentia by Vice-Chancellor S M Ramaswamy, she said many universities had already realised the need for making their curriculum more need based and socially relevant.
For the universities which did not do so this was the right time to start modifying the curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Universities should move forward by unfolding their scope to various challenges in 21st Century, she said.
She stressed the need for synergy among the institutions engaged in rural development so that rural development was total and holistic.
