IISc designs, develops Wifi Manager

Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here has designed and developed Wifi Manager (WM), a system for performance management of WiFi networks.

WM was based on the concept of 'Split-MAC' architecture which allows it to interwork with multi-vendor WiFi devices.

The system was develped by a team of faculty, research staff and students from the Electrical Communication Engineering Department and the Centre for Electronic Design and Technology (CEDT) at the IISc under a project funded by the Department of Information Technology (DIT), according to a release here today.

The highlights of the technology include features such as configurable user service policies, ease of deployment with an existing infrastructure and a flexible architecture which allows easy inclusion of additional features by incorporating new provisions in the WiFi suite of standards.

An Indian patent has been filed for this technological innovation and an international patent filing is also being processed.

A technology transfer MoU was being signed between IISc and Transmete, an IIT Madras-based start-up company that provides WiFi networking solutions.
