Recruit teachers for disabled students HC

New Delhi: The Delhi HC has directed the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to decide immediately on recruitment of special teachers for disabled children in its schools.

A division bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Muralidhar, while hearing a PIL yesterday, directed the management of the Kendriya Vidyalayas to take a decision in this regard and inform the court by Friday.

The court's direction came after the KVS in its affidavit admitted that there is no specially trained teacher available in any of its schools for a total number of 1,561 disabled students here.

Meanwhile, the court also issued a notice to the Ministry of HRD seeking its stand with regard to the number of special educators in the Navodaya Schools.

Appearing for the petitioner - Social Jurists, an NGO, counsel Ashok Aggarwal brought to the court's notice that KVS and Navodaya Vidyalayas do not have special educators for disabled children.

The counsel contended that neither the management of KVs nor Navodaya Vidyalayas take any step to recruit such teachers leaving the students deprived of their fundamental right to eduction.
