New Delhi: Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Friday said the government has no plans to privatise the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Azad said: "There is no question of privatisation of AIIMS as it is the only premier institute that caters to poor people."
Apprehensions of AIIMS' privatisation were raised after the S. Valiathan Committee recommended that recruitment to Class C and D level posts in the institute should be done through reputed professional agencies. The committee was set up to look for better management and functioning processes for the top medical institute of the country.
