Manipal: Manipal University will host a two-day Base of Pyramid (BoP) Summit-2009 on December 17 and 18, 2009, with an objective to encourage innovation and creativity, involving partners of BoP in the areas of innovation, incubation and investment.
The organisers said the theme of the summit is `Partnerships - a necessary paradigm for delivering to the BoP.' The summit will provide a common platform for various scholars and experts around the globe to share their experiences in developing product and services for BoP consumers in open innovation environment.
Innovation and creativity are the keys in the present era of competition. Innovative people who are capable of translating their ideas into consumer products and services get the highest priority and recognition in the society, as they serve the societal needs. Universities and Industrial houses are proactive in bridging the societal needs and young talents at different levels. BoP programme of Manipal University is one among them.
Anand Sudarshan, MD & CEO, Manipal Education Group and H S Ballal, pro-chancellor, Manipal University, will address the summit which will also include four sessions and a closing plenary by the experts from the field. Prabhu Kandachar, professor, industrial design engineering, design engineering department faculty of industrial design engineering Delft, University of Technology and Alexius Collette, CEO, Philips Innovation Campus, Philips Electronics India Ltd. A S Rao, advisor, department of scientific & industrial research (DSIR), Government of India, Sujith Banerjee, director of Government of India department of science & technology, K N Vijay Prakash, commissioner, Mangalore Municipality, Prassana Kumar, CEO, zilla panchayat, Udupi, Vigneshwar Vermudi, economist, Prof. Keshava Bhat Pallethadke, scientist, Krishna Kothai, director, Centre for Rural Studies, Manipal University, will be the resource persons.
The summit will also showcase various activities that are undertaken at different levels of emerging consumers and to provide a platform for experts to share their knowledge with others. The BoP Summit is co-sponsored by Manipal Education. It is supported by Philips, Intel, PSG-STEP and NRDC.
