Chennai: Students, especially women, should take up jobs in the defence, space and atomic energy sectors, which was more challenging.
The defence, space and atomic energy sectors offered good pay packages and alsojob security, instead of in the IT sector, which generate more stress, a top defense official said
'Jobs in the IT sector generate more stress. But employment, especially for women in defence, atomic energy and the space sector are tension free', Dr Lalit M Pattnaik,vice-chancellor, Defense Institute of Advanced Technology, Ministry of Defense, DRDO, said .
The revised pay scales would ensure good remuneration to those working in these fields, on par with the IT sector, he said, speaking at a national conference on Microelectronics and Communications Engineering at SRM University here.
He said faculty development at the university level alone could play a key role in improving educational standards and encouraging students take up higher studies.
Pattnaik suggested that educational institutes hire those aged above 60 years of age, as their experience would help the younger faculty, besides proving useful for the talent pool.
Pattnaik said more research has to be done at various fields at the national level to encourage students. 'We can produce more Phds if students are encouraged to do various kinds of research at national and international levels', he said.
