Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government today declared a 15-day holiday for certain educational institutions, except schools and medical colleges, in 10 districts in Telangana from Friday owing to 'student unrest'.
"The government has decided to close the government, government-aided and private junior, polytechnics, degree and University colleges including MBA, MCA, Pharmacy, Law and Engineering Colleges from December 4 to 18 as a preventive measure in view of the student unrest," Higher Education Department Principal Secretary Suresh Chanda said in an order today.
Students in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal, Medak, Nalgonda, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts have been on an agitation path, demanding creation of a separate Telangana state.
At many places in the region, students went on a rampage in the last four days and damaged public and private properties in the aftermath of the fast launched by Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
