Virus attack on CAT?

Updated on: Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Kolkata: Viruses W32.NIMBDA and Conflicker are believed to have hit exam centres around India conducting CAT exams causing a slowdown in the system.

The attack occurred because the computers used by Prometric are from local colleges. All machines were scanned for viruses but some bugs were not detected by the scan. A hardware/ software mismatch for older terminals is also thought to be responsible.

The IIMs have signed a $40-million contract with Prometric. One of the clauses of the agreement is flawless delivery. The IIMs have made their opinions known to Prometric, whose COO Charles Kernan flew into India on November 30.

Network experts, however, are sceptical of the virus claims. They state that the software used by Prometric is to blame and servers at the centres not having adequate capability.

BIT-Pilani has conducted BIT-SAT for the past five years without technical problems.
