Kolkata: The Jadavpur University executive council suspended two students and expelled two from the women’s hostel.
The four women had created problems in August over allocation of rooms.
A large group of students had created a fuss in August and gheraoed the hostel’s superintendent. The executive council backed the superintendent’s decision.
The two women were suspended for six months.
Students from unions across arts, science and engineering have jointly said that they will be bringing the matter up with university authorities.
According to the students, the committee set up by the executive council failed identify the students responsible for the violence.
The unions indicated that they would step up their action if Jadavpur University authorities did not revoke their decision.
