Vadodara: A 100 Chinese delegates visited MSU under the youth exchange programme between India and China by Ministry of Youth Affairs, Culture and Sports that was co-ordinated by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS).

It was also for the first time that Chinese delegates visited MSU as well as Vadodara under the youth exchange programme. MSU is also the first university where this delegate of students, teachers and directors have visited during their 10-day programme.

After a tour of Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin, they are currently touring Gujarat. Their itinerary was decided by the Centre and MSU was selected as a tour halt owing to its prominent alumni, including Sam Pitroda and Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan.

'The delegates were taken around the campus, especially to the fine arts and home science faculties. They met the teachers and interacted with the students,' said vice-chancellor Ramesh Goyal.

Goyal has also invited the delegation for the international conference on Buddhism in January 2010. 'Our students have, in past, visited China under the youth exchange programme, but it's for the first time that a Chinese delegation visited our campus. University officials as well as student leaders accompanied them. We shared ideas about various courses, academic research and cultural activities conducted in various faculties,' added Goyal.

During an interactive session with MSU students, Chinese students sung Chinese songs. MSU students, in return, sang the traditional garba song to which Chinese students clapped.

'I made these special pouches from pure Chinese silk to gift the students in MSU. It's token of our appreciation and a handmade memento from us,' said Chen Yan, a teacher from CAAC University from Beijing. 'I will come back to the city so that I can spend more time looking around the place. This is my first visit to India and I am certainly coming back,' added Yan.
