Coimbatore: A group of persons opposed to BT and GM seeds created a flutter at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University's convocation here today by raising slogans and distributing pamphlets against such varieties as Governor S S Barnala arrived for the function.
As the Governor, also the Chancellor of the university, was about to enter the venue at the TNAU, the eight-member group, including a few lawyers, raised slogans against research and sale of BT varieties, including BT brinjal, university sources said.
They accused TNAU of 'bowing to pressure from multi-nationals like Monsanto' and asked the students not to accept the degrees from such a university.
All the persons were removed from the venue for 'creating commotion' during the Governor's arrival, police said.
