Chennai: T he Madras University has now decided to provide higher education free for the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in the camps across the state
Vice-chancellor Prof G. Thiruvasagam said the university would appeal to the affiliated colleges to allocate seats to the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees. It may be recalled here that educational institutions had been turning away the refugees from their admission counters till recently.
Following representations from several quarters that the refugees were living in dismal conditions, chief minister M. Karunanidhi sent teams of ministers and officials to the camps and based on their report, announced liberal sops for them.
