New Delhi: The annual fest of XLRI, Ensemble’09, that was held from November 13-15 ended in great style and grandeur. The fest witnessed great participation from the B-schools and corporates. Various games were played at the fest varying across all business verticals, by enthusiast of finance, marketing, operations, information systems and human resources.
There were numerous events organised to mark the fest. More than 50 B-Schools, including all the IIM's, ISB, IIFT, MDI, SP JAIN, and TISS participated in the fest. Prominent personalities from the field of academia, business, media, sports and politics attended the fest.
A major event of Ensemble 2009 is the Idea Summit– which is drew experts from different walks of life to share their experiences with the students. The important speakers for the Idea Summit were N Sivaraman, Executive Vice President (Financial Services), L&T, Tapan Mitra, Chief HR - Apollo Tyres, Micheal Ferreira, four time winner of world billiards championship, U P Agarwal, President, ICAI.
“Human Resource 2015” which was attended by Leena Nair where she shared about her view on changes in the business world, the trends in human resource what it will take to be an impactful HR manager in the near future. She spoke passionately about the new era of HR with the advent of GEN Y, the Bharat vs India divide, the huge box of talent that our country has and also how there is a crucial need to have at least 30-40 per cent women in corporate world. This was followed by an enriching talk by employee relations head of HUL, Sameer Nagaraj, who spoke about “HR transformation for business success”. He explained based on his own extensive experience how HR needs to make organisations conducive to churning out leaders like HUL does.
There were various other case studies presented at the fest. The HR Flagship event ‘war of wits’; organised by the Forum for Industrial Relations at XLRI (FIRE@X) based on the concept of collective bargaining and negotiation competition called ‘Strike or Yield’ was the perfect platform for testing ones negotiating skills in an explosive management-union situation.
The Finance Flagship case study and Simulation game Prometheus, was conducted by FINAX (The Finance Association at XLRI ) The HR case study Avant Garde, organised by SAPHHIRE and HUL which moves beyond convention to incorporate various live twists and turns as one could generally expect in the dynamic field of HR.
STRATEGIKON, an ingenious event that tests the contestants’ ability to propose and examine the feasibility of mergers and acquisitions, where the primary objective is to test tomorrow’s managers’ ability to sniff out winning combinations and utilise the synergies to come up with the best strategy possible in such a field.
Apart from all serious management based events at XLRI, keeping to it’s tradition of renowned cultural exuberance and appreciation. A cultural night was organised by SPIC MACAY with regional song and dance performances by students. Nukkad Natak was organised by the XLRI’s dramatics association (DRACULA) and further adding colour and vibrance to the entire ambience was face painting organised by XLRI adding further gala and galore to the fest.
