Chennai: Fifty-three faculty members of the University of Madras and its affiliated colleges in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) stream were undergoing a two-day intensive free training programme on Java and best practices in application development. The first day of the programme was started on Thursday here at ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu (INTACT), a consortium of Government of India, state government and CII, premises.
Inaugurated by G Thiruvasagam, vice-chancellor, University of Madras on Thursday at INTACT campus in Perungudi, the programme is aimed to equip faculty member in ICT stream of various colleges affiliated to University of Madras and also teachers of the University on the changing needs of the industry. M Sivakumar, chief executive officer, INTACT, said.
Launched in August this year by chief minister M Karunanidhi, the academy, which is based on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, is aimed to give training to graduates and post-graduates faculty members of various universities in the state.
With an budgetary allocation of Rs 20 lakh for the entire three year period, the academy aims to cover 5,000 teachers with 10 universities, both technical and arts & science streams, with whom the academy has signed an MOU, within the three year period.
