Kolkata: Directi, an internet products company, announced the launch of CodeChef Campus Snackdown – a team-based online programming competition for students in India.
This contest will allow the brightest engineering minds in the country to compete on a single platform.
The contest will be conducted in two rounds. The first round will take place online on November 21, 2009 from 7 pm to 12 am. The top teams from this round will be flown to Mumbai for a final in-person round culminating later in January. Winning teams will receive up to Rs 3 lakh and top teams from each college will receive recognition on the site.
Over 175 teams have already registered for this competition from across the country. The participating teams include students from institutes such as IITs, BITS Pilani, BHU, IIIT, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology etc.
Bhavin Turakhia, founder, chairman & CEO, Directi said, “India is home to some of the best engineering talent. Today we have lakhs of engineers graduating every year. However, due to lack of adequate resources, the developers or programmers either move abroad or shift to the more lucrative services segment of the IT industry.
CodeChef was founded to address this need of programmers and provide them with a platform to compete, interact and hone their programming skills. Campus Snackdown is the largest of CodeChef competitions so far. The mega contest is aimed at a vast pool of budding engineers to provide them with the right opportunity.”
