FEDCUTA supports AMU teachers

Aligarh: A federation representing central university teachers today decided to support Aligarh Muslim University fraternity in demanding the resignation of its Vice Chancellor.

Leaders of the Federation of Central Universities Teachers' Associations (FEDCUTA), in a resolution issued today, demanded that Vice Chancellor of the university, P K Abdul Azis should be asked to resign as he has 'lost the moral and administrative authority to continue on his post.'

President of FEDCUTA Aditya Narain Misra and its General Secretary Tabrez Alam Khan, who visited the varsity yesterday evening, announced in a joint statement their decision to support AMU teachers in their "struggle against the arbitrary functioning of the AMU Vice Chancellor.

They warned that the issue 'could lead to an all India movement if the Central government fails to take necessary action as demanded by the AMU teachers'. The federation has also demanded that vice chancellors of all universities, who face any official inquiry should be suspended or asked to proceed on leave for the period of the inquiry 'to ensure the impartiality of the probe'

The HRD Ministry 'cannot abdicate its responsibility in view of the fact that the AMU Vice Chancellor who is currently facing a Visitorial inquiry has shown scant respect towards members of the two-member committee probing charges against him', Secretary of the AMU Teachers Association (AMUTA)Jamshed Siddiqui told reporters here.
