According to the vice-chancellor, Sabapathy Mohan, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is the only educational institute have a state-of-the art television studio in the state.
While Dinamalar bore the full cost of Rs 65 lakh for the construction of the media block, the UGC sponsored Rs 17 lakh added with the university itself bearing the rest to set up the Rs 32 lakh worth television studio.
The television studio has a separate audio studio for digital sound recording, modern multi media laboratory for online media production, web designing and layout designing for print media.
The department of mass communication in the university is to launch a Gyanvani FM radio service in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Open University for educational broadcast with the reach of 83 km radius from Tirunelveli.
This FM radio station to be inaugurated on coming Friday at the university will broadcast educational programmes for the students of the southern districts daily for eight hours in the morning and evening. Of the total broadcasting time, Indira Gandhi Open University will be allocated six hours (three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening) and the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University will broadcast its programmes one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening session.
