Chennai: Leading schools in the city are all set to issue application forms for kindergarten and for parents trying to get children a seat in that sought-after institution, it means spending hours in serpentine queues to buy forms.
The DAV group of schools, Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram in Kilpauk and Calibre Academy in Mylapore will start issuing forms in the first week of December. Sherwood Hall Senior Secondary School in Chetpet will start the process after Pongal in January.
The admission season is a period of frenzy for parents, and once the forms are purchased, the process of chasing anybody even remotely associated with the school to ensure that their child gets a seat begins. Last year, at a school in Chetpet, parents had to stand in the pouring rain for hours to purchase application forms.
"Each year, when the schools start issuing the forms, we see hordes of parents outside the school. There's a mad rush and police are alerted to keep the crowd in check. Sometimes parents are so eager to get the forms that they forget their manners and start pushing and shoving," says Rosy M, mother of a class V student of DAV Boys Senior Secondary School in Gopalapuram.
