Chennai: To control rising fraudulent act, student's photograph to be scanned and printed on the document of class 10, plus-2 mark-sheets
The Tamil Nadu school education department has shoot up with fresh method to control fake certificate crimes by printing the documents of class 10 and 12th mark sheets with students photograph on it - a first-time initiative in India.
Minister for school education Thangam Thennarasu, said in an attempt to make exam and mark-sheets fool-proof, the department plans to print the student’s photo in the mark-sheet. 'We already have numerous security features in the mark sheet which are not visible to our eyes. Printing of student's photo in the mark sheet is one of the points that we discussed as part of reforms in board examination,' he said.
Pointing out that the directorate of government examinations (DGE) had tried this novel method for class-VIII board (ESLC) examination this year, Mr Thennarasu said as fewer students take up Elementary School Leaving Certificate (ESLC) examination, the DGE decided to try the new method for that class, which worked well.
'As this project seems to be feasible, we thought why not implement it for class-X and XII board examination also; but as about 15 lakh students write the examination every year, it will take some time for us to work out the modalities. Even though it is difficult for us to put the system into practice this academic year, we will do it the next academic year,' he assured.
Mr Thennarasu had asked the DGE to work out the modalities of implementing the project. A senior DGE official, on condition of anonymity, said the DGE had already been printing student's photos in their hall tickets so it would not be a big task for the directorate to print the same photo in the mark-sheet.
But as the examination process for the current academic year has already started, this project would likely be implemented in the ensuing academic year. The official said there were instances in which the certificates of teachers and students had been forged and later action had been taken against them.
