Puducherry: Joint action committee of government school teachers in Puducherry has announced that their members would boycott the celebration of Teachers` day slated for November 14.
Jayaraman, convener of the action committee, said government was holding the teachers day function late instead of holding it on September 5 to coincide with birth anniversary of former President Dr S Radhakrishnan.
He said government was yet to concede the demands of the associations of Primary School teachers, Graduate Teachers and Tamil teachers in government schools.
Among other things, they wanted special allowance for teachers working in village schools and filling of vacant posts.A demonstration would be held in support of these demands before the directorate of School education on November 11 which would be followed by boycott of Teachers day,he added.
