Chennai: The Madras varsity has decided to scrap the system of providing optical mark recognition (OMR) in the semester examination, as it has created much confusion.
Prof G. Thiruvasagam, vice-chancellor, said that the university would also announce the date of declaration of results along with the exam timetable.
The VC, who convened a meeting with principals and secretaries of affiliated self-financing arts and science colleges on Friday, said the colleges had agreed to offer free education to 10 poor students each.
The university might sanction 10 more seats for each department of the colleges offering such free education, disclosed the VC.
He said the college heads had also agreed to adopt nearby schools and help them improve their infrastructure of those schools. Further, they had also volunteered to start community colleges system for the benefit of the dropouts residing in the locality.
'Text books used by the senior students and those who completed their exams would be collected through NSS coordinators to be distributed among poor and needy students,' said the VC.
