Chandigarh: To extend financial assistance in the education sector for weaker sections of society, women and differently abled students, the UT administration has decided to waive full tuition fee from the next academic session of 2010-11.
The waiver of tuition fee has been allowed to the extent of 10% of such category of students in the city educational institutes at schools, colleges and the university level, including medical and engineering courses.
While disclosing this to the Times of India, UT joint secretary (Technical Education) Pirthi Chand said that they had taken the decision of full tuition fee for women, economically weaker sections of society and physically handicapped candidates.
‘‘We have also decided to implement this scheme to these candidates to the extent of 10% and the scheme would be made applicable to the candidates from the next academic session of 2010-11,’’ he said. Inquiries by the Times of India revealed that while the full tuition fee waiver would be allowed to the 3% of the weaker-section women in the city educational institutes, the 5% and 2% of the economically weaker and physically handicapped students would be able to get the tuition fee waiver benefit, respectively.
The administration has decided to extend these benefits to the city-based educational institutes such as Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, (Degree & Diploma Wings), Chandigarh, Punjab Engineering College, University of Technology, Chandigarh, Chandigarh College of Architecture, Chandigarh, Govt College of Art, Chandigarh, Govt Polytechnic for Women, Chandigarh, Industrial Training Institute, Chandigarh, Govt Central Crafts institute for Women, Chandigarh, Govt Medical College & Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh and Government and the Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector-16, Chandigarh.
The decision to this effect has already been conveyed to administrative secretaries, heads of departments, offices and corporations and boards in the Chandigarh administration.
