Tirunelveli: ESIC has proposed to set up 11 medical colleges and 12 post-graduate institutes for medical education and research centres
Disclosing this in Tirunelveli at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a 50-bedded ESI hospital on Tuesday, Union minister for labour and employment Mallikarjun Kharge assured one of the medical colleges under the ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) scheme to Coimbatore, where the number of insured beneficiaries under the ESIC is high in Tamil Nadu.
However, the entrance procedure for the medical colleges and research centres to be set up under the ESIC scheme would be decided by the corporation later.
We have a plan to reserve certain number of seats to be filled up by the state governments in those colleges, he added.
Appreciating the Tamil Nadu government's Kalaignar health insurance scheme for the unorganised workers, the Union labour minister wanted the Tamil Nadu government to equally concentrate on the implementation of the Centre's Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, so that the unorganised workers under poverty line would get medical benefit for an additional amount of Rs 30,000.
