Kolkata: Twenty trainee teaching associates have been hired to help faculty members at IIM Calcutta.
The associates will lessen the workload for the lecturers, leaving them with more time for research and improving teaching standards. It is also hoped that the decision of introducing the post will encourage students to opt for higher studies.
The teaching associates have a first-class master’s degree and are on a yearly contract. They will not be allowed to teach but can take up two courses of their choice at IIM C and have access to the library. Their responsibilities include preparing and correcting question papers and evaluating students. They will receive between a Rs 18,000 –Rs 22,000.
Doctoral students currently double as teaching assistants IIM C as and when they are vacancies.
