International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on June 9 at IIMB, which will enable them to work together to provide deep technology and business mentorship for young technology start-ups and entrepreneurs.
The institutions will collaborate to share their expertise in the areas of technology and management respectively with the start-ups being incubated in their respective innovation centres.
IIM Bangalore's incubation centre:
IIM Bangalore's incubation centre, the Nadathur S Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL), operational since 2002, aids start-ups with the academic research conducted by scholars and is currently incubating 18 start ups.
IIIT Bangalore's innovation centre:
Set up in 2009, the purpose of IIIT B Innovation Centre is to incubate companies that will help realize a synergetic partnership with the institute faculty and students.
It is currently nurturing 17 companies that are developing innovative IT-based products that will help solving difficulties in health, transportation and energy industries.
How will this collaboration help young entrepreneurs?
"IIM-B and IIIT-B, from their collective experience in nurturing entrepreneurs and start-ups over the past decade, recognise their mutual interest in positively influencing the technology start-up ecosystem in India and the importance of collaborating with each other to nurture early stage technology ventures and help them in shaping appropriate business models," said Professor Suresh Bhagavatula, Chairperson, Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Development, NSRCEL
Professor S Sadagopan, director of IIIT-B, said, "The collaborative partnership between the innovation centres of IIIT-B and IIM-B is a much needed and one-of-its-kind model of cooperation between the two premier institutes for the benefit of the startup community."
"I am sure this collaboration will be a win-win situation for both the institutions and the start-ups," said Professor R Srinivasan, the director in charge of IIM Bangalore.
