The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) recorded 100 percent summer placement for its very first batch (PGP class of 2015-17) putting an end to the speculation if the industry would accept the newest batch of the recently opened institute.
The summer placement season for the first batch of IIMV successfully concluded when 33 companies recruited all 48 participating students from the batch of 49, while one student opted out to pursue a start-up effort. IIM Visakhapatnam is one of the six new IIMs that started in 2015 and is currently operating under the faculty mentorship of IIM Bangalore.
The first phase of summer placements was a unique joint process of IIM Bangalore (IIMB) and IIMV held in the first week of November 2015 at IIMB, wherein 31 students of the batch were selected. The second phase saw multiple recruiters visiting the IIMV campus over a period of three months to recruit students of their choice, concluding with all 48 students successfully securing internship offers.
Major recruiters in consulting and banking were KPMG and Ernst & Young who recruited IIMV students for their consulting division and transaction advisory, respectively. The recruiters in technology domain included Xiaomi, Directi, Mindtree, Capgemini, Sutherland Global, Mphasis and SkyQuest. Internet companies such as Hopscotch, Mauj.com, IITIIM, Shaadi.com, Channelplay, and Furlenco also recruited students for key product management and project management internships.
"The first batch of IIMV students rose to the challenge of securing internships within two months of joining, with regular IIMB recruiters making offers to IIMV students also," said Professor Ganesh Prabhu, Chairperson, Career Development Services, IIM Bangalore, while commenting on the season.
Arun Narayan, Placement Representative, IIMB, said: "IIM Bangalore students volunteered complete support to their IIMV counterparts in resume preparation and interview skills. The IIMV students impressed many regular recruiters of IIMB with their performance and preparedness."
"Students had focused targets in the sectors they wanted to intern with, and every student was able to achieve their target," said Ripusudan Adhikari, Placement Representative, IIM Visakhapatnam.
