Bhubaneswar: Claiming that Orissa was fast emerging as an educational hub, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said the government wanted to turn it into a 'sanctuary' of world class institutes.
'My government has a vision of making Orissa a 'sanctuary' of world class institutes for both learning and research', Patnaik said inaugurating the campus of International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) here.
IIIT, Bhubaneswar, was being developed by the state government from its own resources with an aim to churn out talent, the best in the country. The state government had alloted 23 acre of land for the IIIT and committed to provide Rs 50 crore to build up world class infrastructure and facilities, Patnaik said.
Asking the IIIT's faculty, staff and students to work hard to realise the goal and make it a temple of learning, he said the state government had been investing in other institutes like National Law University, Orissa and Entrepreneurship Development Insitute.
'We have other places like Institute of Mathematics and Application', he said adding that institutions like NISER, IIT, Central University and All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) were also now in the state.
While the National Institite of Faishion Technology (NIFT) would be coming up here soon, the state had been demanding an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) here. Orissa also boasted off engineering colleges, business schools, medical institutes, law schools and universities of national and international repute.
