Kolkata: Undergraduate colleges affiliated to Calcutta University will switch over to the semester system from 2010. The university is taking steps to get the undergraduate council to rearrange the syllabi in all subjects into modules for semesters.
Jadavpur University has been following a semester system for the past five years. CU was toying with the idea for a long time but had initially met with resistance. The 300-odd affiliated UG colleges of the university had also been demanding this switch for a long time.
“We have decided that from 2010 all colleges affiliated to CU will switch over to the semester system. Before that, all the boards of studies of the different subjects will re-work their syllabi into modules to suit the new semester pattern of exams,” said D P Chatterjee, pro-vice chancellor (academic affairs) of the university.
