Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) is likely to start online entrance test for MD/DM courses after Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry from academic year 2017. It will be the second research and medical institute to conduct the entrance test for MD/DM courses. Admissions for 2016 will be conducted through paper based examination for the last time which is scheduled to be held on December 20.
According to a report published by The Times of India, to ensure transparency after the exam cheating racket exposed by the CBI in 2012, the administration has decided to do away with paper-based examination and conduct online entrance tests for MD/DM courses. The online test will be similar to entrance test and will take few years to get finalised. The online application form and payment of the entrance test for MD/DM Courses has already started by PGI.
The administration has also taken other preventive measures after the racket was exposed in 2012. The institute ensured that every student is frisked, jammers are installed and nobody is allowed to even carry personal pens. After strict measures no case of cheating or copying has been reported. However, administration is looking forward for online entrance tests for MD/DM courses to ensure higher transparency and convenience to candidates who, earlier, had to travel to the city for giving the examination.
CBI had exposed massive cheating racket in 2012 where candidates used hi-tech gadgets for mass copying. CBI had recovered laptops, micro-earphones, sophisticated handsets, bluetooth devices, button-hole cameras, tablet computers. The candidates involved in the scam used to get answers from their co-members from a hostel few kilometres away from examination centre through ear phones.
