HRD Minister Smriti Irani speaks on developing Sanskrit Language

HRD minister Smriti Irani, also the Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, said Sanskrit is now language of the world. She also called upon experts to develop Simple Standard Sanskrit that will be easily accessible.

Speaking on the occasion of the 5th convocation, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said,"Sanskrit belongs to all. This is a language that unites our country." HRD Minister Smriti Irani said she looks forward to the day when Sanskrit re-establishes its rightful place of respect in the national life and in the hearts of the people of this nation.

"Sanskrit is the language of yoga,...It is the voice of India's soul and wisdom" she said. So the person who knows Sanskrit can become an excellent teacher of yoga as well, she said. HRD Minister Smriti Irani asked Sanskrit Universities to consider imparting instruction to yoga teachers in Sanskrit. "To achieve this, there is a need to develop appropriate teaching material. This can provide employment to lakhs of Sanskrit students," she said.

Emphasising that Sanskrit is a great repository of knowledge, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said development of this language will have a positive influence on the development of India.

HRD Minister Smriti Irani said Sanskrit was a language of daily use and if it has to become a popular language again, to be used as a medium of entertainment, science, research, education etc in future, then there is a need to develop Simple Standard Sanskrit.

"There is a great need for reorientation in Sanskrit research, keeping in view of the present needs of the country, emerging trends in science and technology, and global developments," the minister said. HRD Minister Smriti Irani said there is a need for Sanskrit scholars to take the lead in identifying and publishing many unpublished manuscripts and works. Contemporary works have to be translated into Sanskrit, the valuable scientific and mathematical knowledge present in Sanskrit will have to be brought out and published, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said.
