Anna University is the only State University in the country to find a place among the top 10 Indian institutions in the QS World Ranking for engineering courses.
According to the rankings released on Monday, the Anna university has improved its performance since last year when it was placed beyond the 300th mark. This year it is positioned at 293. It is a matter of pride for the Anna university as the rest of the institutes are all Central institutions, said Registrar S. Ganesan.
Among the top 10 ranks in the country are the Indian Institutes of Technology – Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Guwahati and Roorkee, the Indian Institute of Science and the University of Delhi.
Anna University appears to have done well in research paper presentation. It has been ranked second only to the Indian Institute of Technology- Delhi, in the H-index citation category.
For Anna University, the average citation index is more than 1,000 and H-index is 80.7. It means that 80 research papers have been cited a minimum of 80 times.
“Among engineering institutions we are maintaining our position among top 10 universities in the country. Our mechanical engineering department is the oldest and we have many branches and our mechanical workshop is one of the biggest in Asia,” a professor said.
The Anna University is ranked ninth in the country in the citations per paper category and ranks seventh in terms of employer-reputation, getting ahead of IIT-Roorkee and Guwahati. In terms of academic reputation it comes tenth.
