Around 1,000 young girls living in slums in East Delhi have been admitted to EDMC schools, who will now be provided free education under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission.
The students from poor background were taken up by the municipal schools with the support of BJP National Secretary and East Delhi MP, Maheish Girri.
"A great mission was undertaken by EDMC teachers and the office of the East Delhi MP, to go door-to-door to educate the families of these girls to send them to school. The parents were counselled and recommended, after which the girls are being admitted by the EDMC," the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) said in a statement. The girl students will not only be given free education but also all the related things such as books and copies for studying.
To mark the formal starting of the education of these girl children, Girri and others felicitated the students by giving admission letters to some of them creating much excitement.
"Today girls are the source of power and energise all walks of life. They are having a very special position in all fields, be it personal or professional. For the nation to progress, it is important that the girls need education and empowered," Girri said.
